Road Angel BlackSpot · For Fleets

Route-risk intelligence for fleets that run on UK roads, not assumptions.

A verified, junction-level index of Britain's accident hotspots — built by 47,800 reporting motorists, cross-checked against STATS19 police collision data, and tuned for the routes your drivers actually drive.

38% Average reduction in reported near-misses among fleet subscribers following weekly hotspot updates
218,472 Indexed junctions across England, Wales and Scotland — every A-road, B-road and motorway junction on the strategic road network
47,800+ Verified motorists contributing incident reports each year, with a 94% confirmation rate when cross-checked against police logs

No claim of accident prevention. Road Angel BlackSpot informs drivers — it does not replace fleet operator judgement, telematics, or driver training.

Chapter 01 · Verification

How a driver report becomes a verified junction warning.

Every BlackSpot grade on our map is the product of a three-stage audit that a procurement officer can read on one page. We built the audit because fleet buyers told us — repeatedly — that raw driver anecdotes aren't an acceptable basis for route-risk policy. Here's the full chain, in the order it actually happens.

  1. 01

    Submission & geo-coding

A motorist files a report through the Road Angel BlackSpot site or mobile companion (312,000 downloads across iOS and Android as of January 2025). Each submission is locked to a postcode and matched to the nearest indexed junction from our 218,472-junction database — the largest open dataset of UK junctions outside the Department for Transport.

  2. 02

    STATS19 cross-check, within 48 hours

Every report is run against the official STATS19 police collision record for the same junction and calendar window. We reject, downgrade, or escalate the warning accordingly. Across 1.2 million community-submitted hazard reports since launch, our confirmation rate against police logs stands at 94%.

  3. 03

    BlackSpot Score publication (0–100)

Verified incidents feed our proprietary postcode-level BlackSpot Score — a 0–100 severity index now cited by 31 local councils in their road safety plans. The score, the underlying police cross-check, and the contributing motorist IDs (anonymised) are all available to fleet partners via our API for inclusion in driver briefing packs and route-risk audits.

Audit authored by Road Angel BlackSpot Ltd, Manchester. Founded 2011 by former Metropolitan Police traffic analyst David Hargreaves. Reviewed by our team of six ex-collision investigators and two chartered civil engineers.

Network coverage · Strategic road network

Every junction your fleet could hit. Indexed.

England, Wales and Scotland — 100% of A-roads, B-roads and motorway junctions on the strategic road network. No operating region is blank on our map. If your fleet runs it, we score it.

Fleet Operations

Four tools that go in the cab, the depot, and the routing software.

Built for fleet managers who need route risk in writing, not in dashboards. Each deliverable is a discrete file, feed, or weekly bulletin your drivers and dispatchers can act on without leaving their normal workflow.

  1. 01

    Route Risk Audit

A point-to-point written report scoring every junction on your regular corridors against the BlackSpot index and the last 36 months of STATS19 collisions. Delivered as a signed PDF and a CSV keyed to your route IDs — ready to drop into a driver briefing or a tender response.

    • Format PDF + CSV
    • Cadence Quarterly, on request
    • Coverage England, Wales, Scotland
  2. 02

    Driver Briefing Packs

Printed-ready, single-page briefings for the ten highest-severity junctions on each driver's daily run. Each sheet shows the BlackSpot Score, a 200-word plain-English hazard note, and a photographic still from the dashcam partner network where available.

    • Format A4 print + mobile PDF
    • Cadence Weekly refresh
    • Coverage Per-driver, per-route
  3. 03

    Dashcam Alert API

A free REST endpoint feeding geofenced hotspot warnings into the in-cabin displays of 140,000+ dashcam-equipped drivers through our partner network. Latency under 400 ms, vehicle-agnostic, no proprietary hardware required.

    • Format REST + Webhooks
    • Cadence Real-time, push on entry
    • Coverage All 218,472 indexed junctions
  4. 04

    Weekly Hotspot Updates

    • Format Email + RSS
    • Cadence Weekly, Monday 07:00 GMT
    • Coverage National, filterable by region

Positioning

BlackSpot data vs. in-cab telematics alone.

In-cab telematics tells you what your own drivers did. BlackSpot tells you what the road did to everyone else, validated against 14 years of police collision records. The two read better together.

In-cab telematics alone

Your fleet, in isolation.

Data origin
Telemetry from your own vehicles only.
Coverage
As wide as your fleet drives — blind spots where you don't operate.
Validation
Self-reported by the same sensors producing the events.
Pre-route insight
Reactive: a junction only enters the record after a near-miss.
Cost model
Per-vehicle subscription, scaling linearly with fleet size.
BlackSpot + your telematics

Every junction, before your driver reaches it.

Data origin
1.2M community reports layered onto 14 years of STATS19 police data.
Coverage
218,472 indexed junctions across every A-road, B-road and motorway in England, Wales and Scotland.
Validation
Every report cross-checked against police logs within 48 hours, 94% confirmation rate.
Pre-route insight
Proactive: drivers briefed on the worst ten junctions before the shift begins.
Cost model
Flat site licence plus a free Alert API for any dashcam partner already in your fleet.

Subscribers who combine BlackSpot briefings with their existing telematics feed report an average 38% reduction in recorded near-miss incidents.
